The Pulp and Paper Research Institute (PAPRI) was established in 1971 to promote scientific research in the field of pulp, paper and related areas. Guiding spirit behind this was Padma Bhusan Late Shri Hari Shankarji Singhania. It was one of the earliest such institutes to be set up by the Indian Pulp and Paper industry and still is one of the few institutions of its kind.

The institute is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

The Institute operates under the supervision of PAPRI managing committee consists of expertise from Paper Industry and day to day activities of the Institute are monitored by the Director/Convener of the institute.

The various laboratories of the institute are well equipped with modern and sophisticated instruments and equipment and are staffed with highly qualified and experienced scientists.

The institute has been carrying out work on a number of projects in different spheres of pulp and paper technology and allied industries e.g. Chemicals.
